  • It’s easier to hope someone will have information on an individual who’s is reported on. Someone might see the article and realise they saw her in a coffee shop with a man, looking very uneasy. And tip off police.

Whereas homelessness is a much harder thing to tackle. That requires government intervention rather than individual intervention from someone who saw something suspicious. And getting a government to care about homeless people is a huge ask.
I hate that we have a homelessness issue, and I hate that it’s not reported on much at all. Things should be in the public eye, in hopes that people wrote to their local rep to try get help.

But it’s more likely you’ll find a missing person (dead or alive) by posting an article than it is likely you’ll resolve homelessness.

  • I worked for them a few years ago.
Try using a browser, if that doesn’t work, clear the cache and cookies and try again. If it still doesn’t work, try a different browser (the one they’d usually recommend was Firefox). If that doesn’t work, customer service should be able to remove it for you.

The system is dumb, the security system is automated and did weird shit at times. One of the error codes in the document we had was labelled as ‘WTF happened?’
So yeah. PayPal are kinda wang sometimes.

  • I worked for them. I’ve seen their list of error code reasons. Literally one of the error codes you could get was labelled as ‘WTF happened?’ on the list.
‘Too many buckets’ was another one, that one made me laugh tbh.
But they literally have like a 12+ page document of error codes and what they mean. The system is pretty buggy.
But generally our solution was, clear cache and cookies or try a different browser. It 75% of the time worked. If that didn’t work, customer service could remove cards for you.

  • COVID is still a pretty new thing. The whole shit storm was only 3 years ago. Flu has been around for fkn ages now, so it’s just a common thing. Where we can predict mutations and how they’ll effect people and spread. So it’s not really a concern, it’s just get your flu jab this year.

Whereas we’re still researching COVID and learning about it. The mutations are different with different effects.

Until it hits normality like flu, and predictability like flu, it’s good to keep people in the know.

I’m thankful it’s still being reported about. As someone with a disability that weakens my immune system, I’m glad to see new vaccines or research into it. I got Omicron, thankfully I’d been vaccinated, cause even with the vaccine it sucked for me. And there was some weird AF symptoms, like the air just smelled like cheese, that one really threw me off. But had I not been vaccinated, who knows just how bad it would have gotten.

And then there’s long COVID, we don’t get long flu. COVID had an effect on my disability and I’ve felt worse since getting it.

So it’s not just as easy as saying but the flu. They’re two different things with different effects and predictability levels and research done into them. So instead of complaining that there’s still stuff being written about it, be thankful it’s being taken seriously so it can eventually just be a background thing that’s akin to flu.

  • You mean like how religion indoctrinates people and hides actual pedophiles while pointing the finger elsewhere?

And the long history of abuse of children by nuns and priests in children’s homes and religious schools/ facilities?

Being LGBT isn’t something you just wake up and choose to ‘identify’ as. You don’t wake up and decide, hey I’m gonna be gay! It’s just part of who you are.

Religion is a choice and something that can and does indoctrinate people. Maybe look in the right direction and you’ll see who the actual bad guys are.

  • Thankfully my mum doesn’t really use her laptop much, mainly for going on Amazon or ordering her groceries. Stuff like that. She asks me questions about her phone a lot. I don’t even remember what phone she has. I just have to take educated guesses by using mine as a baseline. I guess cause I’m the oldest by like 20 years and have like 4 computers and a lot of gaming tech, she just assumed I know what I’m doing. Haha.

Glad your mum is becoming sceptical of things online. Definitely better to be over sceptical with technology these days. I’ve shifted to Linux on everything, except my old ass MacBook which is almost dead. Too many companies out there trying to steal data and personal info now.

  • Communication isn’t my strong point. I know what I mean but often putting what I mean into words fails to get my point across. No worries. :)

Nah, was merely stating she’s in her 50s and would probably fall for something like that. My gran was worse. Oh my days, the amount of times I had to sort her laptop for her cause she’d click sketchy links. God rest her soul. But even she understood netflix. Lmfao. I’m not really that tech savvy, but since I’m the 90s kid, I’m designated tech support.

  • That was my point. My mum isn’t that old and she’d fall for it even with internet experience.

And if you’re insulting my mum’s intelligence, you’re an asshole. She’s smart, just not really that savvy when it comes to technology. Everyone has their weak points, even geniuses. She still calls me up asking how to log into netflix. So while she’s smart, she’s not tech savvy. And they’re the kinds of people that these scams hope for.

  • No, I think things like this that can cause a potential dangerous situation shouldn’t be told. Coming out about anything, sexually, gender identity etc is a personal choice. Taking that from someone is a form of control.

If a teacher tries any of this shit when my kiddo is in school, I’m gonna lose it with them. It’s up to my child if and when they feel comfortable telling me those things, if they ever realise they aren’t straight or aren’t the gender they were born as. It’s their right to choose to tell me this. Not someone else. Just because they’re children, doesn’t mean we have rights to know everything. Their privacy is important too. Children are people, not possessions. They deserve respect. We don’t demand someone’s boss tells their family if they find out this stuff. We don’t demand higher education teachers of over 18s to do this either. Just because their minors does not mean were entitled to know their private thoughts and feelings. Unless a child has admitted to thoughts of suicide/ harming themselves or others, I don’t believe we should be told.

If they think a child has behavioural issues that need looking into, fine. That’s good information. But outing someone, no matter their age is wrong and potentially dangerous. Luckily there’s parents out there who will be accepting if they get information like this. But unfortunately there’s parents who won’t be, and depending on what those parents are like, it could result in some seriously bad situations arising.

I know my own parent was less then impressed when she found out Im pansexual. And they tried the whole ‘but kids’ and ‘its just a phase thing.’ which isn’t as bad as some people/ children would get. But being invalidated doesn’t feel good, especially on something that isn’t an opinion, but a fact. Being told you’re wrong for your sexuality or gender identity can do a lot of damage to people.

This is stupid. It shouldn’t be a thing. I’m sick of the ‘but the children’ bullshit the government keep pushing as a cover for wanting more control. No end to end encryption, because we want to protect the children. Our children, because we want to protect the children. Access to your private messages, the children.
It’s all bullshit they use to get people on board because children are an easy pawn to use. The government’s of the world need to stop using children in pawns of their stupid games and just be honest. But how likely are people to listen if they say ‘we want more control’ over ‘we are trying to protect the children!’

I’ll say it again. Fuck the government.
