I like the idea that these reviewers all had the concept for a perfect Barbie movie, and are then criticising this one for not living up to it.
I think that - like most people - when I heard that Gerwig was making a movie out of Barbie, I thought: how the hell is she going to do that?
Only that Perlman is saying “we all know who it is”, which suggests there aren’t other candidates up for debate as for who it could be.
During previous strikes, I think it was relatively small groups of men who actually got the negotiating done on the AMPTP’s behalf, rather than the AMPTP itself. Iger was a part of those groups in the past, so maybe that’s another reason.
Perlman specifically mentions $27 million, and it’s known that Iger’s deal with Disney was for $54 over over 2 years. Maybe he’s not the only CEO earning that, but he’s the one that most people would associate with that figure.

Everyone’s having lots of fun dunking of The Idol - Andy Greenwald from The Watch podcast said the finale was the worst hour of TV he’d ever seen. It’s rare for HBO to produce a complete stinker. I don’t know if I even want to hate-watch it.
Saw The Artifice Girl recently - not on the list but it’s an recent indie film I’d recommend.

Just seen it, had earlier dismissed as a kids film, but really enjoyed it.
There’s a straightforward trans allegory, but it could also be applied to other situations where societies “make their own monsters”. After all, the proverb “A child that is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth” is as old as humanity itself.
