      They do it so the current president can ask them questions on stuff that would benefit from their knowledge. But Trump would clearly never do that, so this is pretty irrelevant.

        Also, one of the ways you project soft power is to send former presidents on unofficial diplomatic missions. But Trump would also never do that and he has made it pretty clear that he’s no longer interested in the U.S. projecting soft power.
