After 15 years or so of relatively plain sailing, comment platform Disqus is cracking down on sites that violate its terms of service. Pirate manga and anime sites have received notifications that Disqus will no longer provide services after copyright infringement came to its attention. With evictions now spreading to sites including FitGirl Repacks and KickassAnime, it’s a race against the clock to export years of chat in the 24/48 hours notice given.
Never in a million years I would expect to see another MyReadingManga reader in lemmy.
I’ve been consuming BL, Yaoi and m/m since middle school, so I was scientifically engineered and fated to find MRM one day out of desperation. I’m also a cyber student and love looking up privacy shit for the fun of it, so I joined the fediverse. I used to be on there a lot but now I frequent AO3 more.
I felt like I was in on some crazy secret when I saw how one of the pirated manga (Tadaima Okaeri, the ABO one…) got an anime last year. Felt surreal knowing some of that stuff is actually getting published 😅
“Out of desperation” haha story of my life.
I’ve even tried to join as an Ao3 volunteer to give back to the community but rejected on the base that I sounded like I have a life. Blessing in disguise really, I don’t think I have the mental capacity to handle so much online fandom discourse. 😅
Surreal, ABO have come so far from a random Supernatural kink meme fic prompt to a full blown anime. Respect.
