This pauses disbursement of all federal loans and prohibits new scientific grant funding indefinitely. As written, this appears to apply to student loans, as those are disbursed via universities–not directly from the Dept of Education. It explicitly requires cancellation of awarded scientific grant funding that is in conflict with the current administration.
It keeps getting worse, but it’s not like it was unexpected. This is exactly what they said they would do, and people voted for them, because eggs or whatever.
If anything they only surprises so far have been positive ones (like Ukraine).
I honestly didn’t expect this one. They didn’t do anything like this last time and this is highly illegal. Hoping the courts stop this because it’s going to hurt thousands of people if not more if it goes through.
